Kitty litter is made of a type of dirt found naturally in the ground, and is used by many people to gain traction for their vehicles in the event they get stuck in snow, mud, or other wintry mix or slick ground. Simply pour the kitty litter behind the tires that drive your vehicle – most likely the two front wheels, although if you’re not sure, you should pour the litter behind all wheels stuck in snow or ice.

Sand can also be used for such situations. However, while sand can safely be used in your driveway to help your vehicle gain traction, you should never do such with kitty litter. Because it’s made of clay, kitty litter can result in your vehicle slipping and sliding, as clay is naturally slippery.

You can use salt to prevent ice from getting frozen over on your driveway, although it can’t be used for gaining traction. Visit our team at Larry H. Miller Nissan Mesa for your winter questions.
