Thanksgiving—a time to gather with family and friends, celebrate what you are thankful for, and most importantly, stuff your gut so full of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing that you become a permanent fixture adorned to the couch for a minimum of at least five hours. Thanksgiving traditions are what make the holiday so fun for many. Whether it’s the turkey bowl backyard football game or letting the kids serve the dessert, Thanksgiving traditions are to be celebrated for generations. But what become the best traditions could be the ones that you could start right now. Here are three Thanksgiving events around the Phoenix area that could very well become your family’s Thanksgiving traditions for years to come!

Thanksgiving Turkeys

  1. Everyone loves a good parade, so why not enjoy the annual Fountain Hills Thanksgiving Day Parade with your family? The parade starts at 9:00 a.m. and will be themed “Winter in the Southwest.” Floats, dance companies, motorcycle shows, and more will be parading through the streets, so be sure you don’t miss this fantastic parade. Oh, and we forgot to mention Santa will be there! Get all the info you need on their website.
  2. Burn off some calories before you stuff yourself full of Thanksgiving dinner at the 2017 Mesa Turkey Trot. This 5K has been running—quite literally—for years and is one of Mesa’s best Thanksgiving traditions. This year’s race will also include a 10K as well as a one mile fun run/walk. The best part of this 5K? The winner of each age group gets a pie. Don’t wait to register for this year’s Turkey Trot. Running 5K
  3. After you have awakened from your post-dinner food coma, the best thing you can do to feel better is to go for a relaxing stroll. What better way to do that than at the Phoenix Zoo’s ZooLights? Millions of lights will decorate the zoo in a spectacular display of color and imagination. There will even be a three-story lighted tree. Get all the information for this year’s show here.
