The 2017 North American International Auto Show is going on now in Detroit, and several awards have already been given out. Yesterday, Nissan announced our favorite award so far, with the 2017 Nissan TITAN earning recognition as TRUCK TREND’s 2017 Pickup Truck of the Year.
An integral component of Nissan's Year of the Truck initiative, the 2017 TITAN was select over seven other competitors after a long week of demanding performance testing, hauling, towing, and off-roading. Open only to vehicles that are all-new or significantly redesigned for the model year, TRUCK TREND's award program is invitation only. A jury of elite truck experts from across the country evaluated competitors in seven different categories: interior, exterior, functionality, empirical, highway, off-road, and towing and hauling.
“With the launch of the 2017 TITAN, Nissan has set out to redefine themselves as a force in the pickup market,” said TRUCK TREND editor Jason Gonderman. “By combining a richly appointed interior and deep feature set with a stout drivetrain and respectable capabilities, Nissan has reemerged as a player in the half-ton pickup market. Combined with an industry best 5-year/100,000-mile warranty and low cost of entry compared to the competition, Nissan looks to have found the winning combination with the all-new TITAN.”
The 2017 TITAN is also one of three finalists for the North American Truck of the Year award.
