2018 Nissan Versa-Note Oil Filter in Mesa, AZ

Replacing the filter with the oil renews both the lubricant and the component that captures debris. A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing oil to circulate without filtration. The appropriate timing should also be considered with the vehicle's service history.

• Filter replacement is performed with the oil service.
• The filter is matched to the engine's specification.
• The filter seal is checked for leaks after the engine runs.

The filter is replaced alongside the oil so the 1.6-liter inline-four engine receives fresh oil and clean filtration. After the engine is run, the filter seal is checked. This confirms the replacement is seated correctly before the vehicle leaves.

• Filter matched to the engine's specification.
• New drain plug gasket or washer where applicable.
• Leak inspection at the filter seal after running the engine.

The engine can still receive oil, but it may no longer receive oil with debris removed. That makes postponing filter replacement different from simply keeping the engine supplied with lubricant. The manufacturer's schedule calls for replacement every 5,000 miles, while service history and inspection help determine the next appointment.

• Debris remains held in an increasingly loaded filter.
• The bypass valve may open as the filter loads.
• Oil can circulate without filtration.

Matching the filter to the engine fitted in the vehicle helps ensure the replacement is appropriate for its oil system. A filter part number or filter specification is not needed to make the service decision; the service team selects the engine-matched filter. The filter is replaced alongside the oil and its seal is checked after the engine runs.

• Engine displacement: 1.6 liters, or 1,598 cc.
• Engine configuration: inline-four.
• Filter selection is matched to this engine.

The filter holds debris carried by the oil, and stretching it across changes can allow its bypass valve to open. That means the engine may receive oil without filtration. The vehicle's service history and the manufacturer's schedule help determine the correct maintenance timing.

• Oil and filter replacement renews lubrication and filtration together.
• A loaded filter may allow unfiltered oil circulation.
• The filter seal is checked after the engine runs.
