Funds to Benefit Transitional Housing Center's "Success through Literacy" Program

PHOENIX (August 21, 2014) - In a small ceremony on Friday, members of Larry H. Miller Dealerships and Larry H. Miller Charities presented Phoenix's Homeward Bound with a $10,000 check for the organization's Success Through Literacy program.

"In order to achieve permanent housing and stand on their own, individuals must be able to attain a good job. And in order to attain a good job, individuals must be literate," said Barbara Ralston, Homeward Bound's executive director. "We're helping to make those changes needed in our community and we can't thank Larry H. Miller Charities enough for their contribution to furthering literacy goals at Homeward Bound."

One hundred percent of the donation is earmarked for Homeward Bound's Success Through Literacy program, which teaches literacy from infancy through adulthood, aiming to intercept or break the cycle of poverty in economically challenged demographics.

Representatives from Larry H. Miller Dealerships (LHM Dealerships) toured Homeward Bound's facilities with Ralston following the check presentation and were gratified to see how the donation will assist the organization.

"It's amazing to be able to see firsthand how this contribution will support those who benefit from Homeward Bound's services," said Pat Kroneberger, senior vice president of operations for LHM Dealerships. "Homeward Bound's mission is a great match for Larry H. Miller Charities and we are very excited to donate to this exceptional organization."

Success Through Literacy not only assists with family education, but also with a daily homework club on-site to aid children living within the campus' traditional housing complex with the extra educational support they need to thrive.

Families may reside at Homeward Bound for as many as two years - the average timeframe needed to create an environment of stability during times of housing uncertainty. In addition to housing and literacy assistance, the non-profit organization provides the skills needed for clients to cope with everyday life challenges, find stable employment and locate permanent, affordable housing.

Larry H. Miller Charities is a non-profit organization that functions as the charitable arm of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies (LHM Group). Funding from LHM Charities benefits communities where the LHM Group does business, and focuses on issues that affect women and children, with an emphasis on health and education. With more than 13 dealerships in Arizona, the company is one of the largest dealership groups in the state.
